During the 16th century, the Xochipilli figure was carved. The Aztec statue depicts Xochipilli, the Prince of Flowers decorated with six psychoactive plants: mushrooms, tobacco, morning glory, sinicuichi, cacahuaxochitl, and one unidentified plant. The mushroom depicted on the statue has since been identified as the magic mushroom species Psilocybe aztecorum, which is known to be solely from the region around the volcano Popocatepetl where the statue was discovered later on.
