Must see Video: Fly Agaric Amanita muscaria
Amanita muscaria is now primarily famed for its hallucinogenic properties, with its main psychoactive constituent being the compound muscimol. It was used as an intoxicant and entheogen by the peoples of Siberia and has a religious significance in these cultures. There has been much speculation on traditional use of this mushroom as an intoxicant in places other than Siberia; however, such traditions are far less well-documented. The American banker and amateur ethnomycologist R. Gordon Wasson proposed the fly agaric was in fact the Soma talked about in the ancient Rig Veda texts of India; since its introduction in 1968, this theory has gained both followers and detractors in anthropological literature

Awesome Video: The Pharmacratic Inquisition 1of8
November 16, 2010
The Pharmacratic Inquisition is a provocative film from Gnostic Media that makes the argument that virtually all of the mythology, symbolism, and story of Jesus and related Christian traditions relate to two basic subjects: astrology and shamanism. For those unfamiliar with the evidence in support of this claim, this film can be truly eye opening and revolutionary. Much of the material for this film rests upon the work of John Allegro. Allegro was one of the original scholars chosen to translate the Dead Sea Scrolls, ancient Christian texts that were discovered in Qumram near the Dead Sea in the middle of the 20th century. Unlike his colleagues, Allegro was not beholden to the Catholic Church and therefore was able to develop his theories and interpretations free from Catholic dogma. The result was the radical claim that Jesus was a psychoactive mushroom. In particular, Allegro argued that the mythology and symbolism surrounding the Christ figure all point to Amanita muscaria mushrooms, the iconic red and white mushroom so common in Christmas symbolism and imagery.
Shroom: Amanita Mushroom
November 10, 2010
I think this is an Amanita ceasarea or jacksonii but am not sure. It was found on August 14th in central Alabama. I found it in the woods growing under Pine trees and pine straw and among other deciduous trees. I went hunting about an hour after a steady rain and i think that might be the reason there are no spots on the cap. It was growing alone in pine waste. So we have Central Alabama, August, 87 to 89 degrees, growing out of dirt amongst pine tree needles and directly after a 2-3 hour steady rain shower. Like I said in the video, I do NOT plan on eating or consuming this mushroom in any way. This is for identification purposes only. The cap was blood red when I found it but has faded a little as you can see. I know I probably should have left it in the ground but there is alot of deer activity where I was and an empty stem about 10 -12 feet away that the cap had been eaten off of so I picked it. Any help would be greatly appreciated in helping me identify this mushroom. August 16th, 2010. Upon further research I have found that this mushroom is most likely an Amanita Ceasarea or Amanita Jacksonii. This video shows a look alike Amanita that could be misidentified with the Muscaria. Slight differences can sometimes make all the difference.
