Possession and use of psilocybin and psilocin was prohibited, but courts had ruled the law did not apply to wild mushrooms containing these compounds, and for a brief period of time Psilocybe cubensis and other Psilocybe mushrooms were sold in city shops. However, Psilocybe mushroom spores continue to be legal, due to the fact they do not carry psilocin until they are cultivated.
