Great Video: CSML – Yoshi Rock

I suggest you read my explanation of the concepts showcased in this video, or else you might not get it.Yoshi Rock is a tough cookie. Here, you have little time to mess around and tons of things that have to be done in order to complete the level. I'm proud of this level, though, and thought it would make a nice video.This level showcases one of the most original concepts in Chives' Super Mario Landmass; alternate paths through levels. Now, alternate paths don't sound too exciting because most Mario games have them but alternate paths are done differently in my game. You see, the Switch Blocks you choose to fill early in the game affect how you will be able to go through levels later on.In the course of the game you must make two decisions relating to Switch Blocks. First decision is to choose the Yellow Switch or the Green Switch. The Yellow Switch fills all the Yellow Switch Blocks across the levels meaning mushrooms are more frequent and plentiful. The Green Switch fills Green Switch Blocks, which are much rarer in levels but produce cape feathers thus granting Mario the power of flight. Since there are more Yellow Switch Blocks than Green, but Green produce better items the two choices end up fairly even.Later in the game you come across the second choice. Either you hit the Blue Switch or the Red Switch. Neither Blue Switch Blocks or Red Switch Blocks produce items but they act as platforms to help you, or sometimes as walls to stop you. For the most part Blue and Red are even in their advantages but there IS a distinction between the two choices. Let's just say Blue blocks may help more in CERTAIN levels while sometimes you'll find yourself wishing you really had pressed the Red Switch. In the end, Switch Blocks form the core of this hack. They add replayibility to the levels and make it a blast to play. Now, feel free to watch the video. :D
