Great Video: Timothy Leary on LSD, Dying, Church, Internet, etc. 1 of 2
May 5, 2008
Timothy Leary was interviewed by Paul Krassner in 1995, the year before he died. In this free wheeling interview, Leary talks about LSD, Death & Dying, the Catholic Church, the Internet, Ram Dass, G. Gordon Liddy, the Weather Underground, and more. This is an edited version excerpted from the 8 part series in Nancy Cain’s video archives. For more videos on Timothy Leary and sacred sacraments, see http://www.yoism.org/?q=node/52 (where you can also download this entire video). And if you wonder why we call them “sacraments,” here’s scientific proof that psychedelics facilitate genuine religious experiences: In 2006, researchers at the prestigious Johns Hopkins Medical School, in a controlled double blind study, showed that those administered the active ingredient found in magic mushrooms had profound religious experiences. To see a video and major media reports about that study, see http://www.yoism.org/?q=node/219
With the exception of high deserts, almost all types of biomes found in different parts of the world are able to support at the very least a small number of species of magic mushrooms.
The first magic mushroom intoxication scientifically documented in a scholarly journal took place in London in the year 1799. Dr. Everard Brande attended to a family whose members, upon eating uncultivated mushrooms, were seized with visions and laughter. The mushrooms were investigated upon and determined to be Agaricus glutinosus, later reclassified as Psilocybe semilanceata.
