During the 13th century, Albertus Magnus wrote and warned against ingesting mushrooms which he had described as causing insanity, in his treatise “De Vegetabilibus.” The said mushrooms may have been a species of magic mushrooms.
On Oct 27, 1970 the Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Act was passed. Part II of this Act is the Controlled Substance Act CSA which defined a classification system for drugs. It places most of the known hallucinogens in Schedule I. Included in this classification are LSD, psilocybin, psilocin, mescaline, peyote, cannabis and MDA. However, the Act did not explicitly include whole magic mushrooms.
