In the year 1958 Albert Hofmann, while working at Sandoz Pharmaceutical in Switzerland, became the first to identify psilocin and psilocybin as the active compounds in magic mushrooms. Albert Hofmann also became the first to successfully isolate psilocybin from the mushrooms.
