Timothy Francis Leary, (October 22, 1920 — May 31, 1996) was an American writer, Harvard psychologist, modern pioneer and advocate of psychedelic drug research and use, and one of the first people whose remains have been sent into space. As a 1960s counterculture icon, he is most famous as a proponent of the therapeutic and spiritual benefits of LSD.

Psilocybe mushrooms are perhaps best known for its species with hallucinogenic properties. The said species widely known as “magic mushrooms.” That being said, more than half of Psilocybe mushrooms do not actually contain hallucinogenic compounds of any sort.

Author Giorgio Samorini identified some mesolithic rock paintings from Tassili n’Ajjer, a prehistoric North African site identified with the Capsian culture, as depicting the religious and situalistic use of what may possibly be Psilocybe mushrooms.
