I did another animation!
In the year 1904, the Psilocybe cubensis species was first described as Stropharia cubensis by F.S. Earle. The description of the magic mushroom type was done in Cuba, hence the specific name “cubensis.” The species was further named independently as Naematoloma caerulescens in Tonkin in 1907 by N. Patouillard, and as Stropharia cyanescens by W.A. Murrill in 1941 in Florida. These names were later defined as synonyms of the final species name Psilocybe cubensis.
Psilocybe cyanescens makes its home in woody debris. It prefers the presence of woodchips and mulched plant beds particularly under rhododendrons . In the U.S., Psilocybe cyanescens grows mainly in the Pacific Northwest, south to northern California. It can be found as well as in Western and Central Europe. This species of magic mushrooms was likely artificially introduced to Europe, where it occurs mainly in cemeteries, botanical gardens and city parks.
