Young italians tripping on magicmushrooms in amsterdam
Presently, magic mushroom use has been reported among several cultures and societies spanning from central Mexico to Oaxaca, including groups of Nahua, Mixtecs, Mixe, Mazatecs, Zapotecs, and others. The popularization of entheogens by R. Gordon Wasson, Timothy Leary, and others has also led to an explosion in the recreational use of magic mushrooms throughout the world. The relatively easy availability of magic mushrooms from wild and cultivated sources has made it among the most widely used of the hallucinogenic drugs.
The toxic but not deadly species Chlorophyllum molybdites is often mistaken for the magic mushroom Psilocybe cubensis. Instances of these mistakes that resulted in poisonings were reported in Florida.
